Beautiful Gate School was started in 2003, by Bill and Thelma Kaping’a a Zambian couple who had a heart to make a difference in Zambia.  After spending time training with Youth With a Mission in South Africa, the Kaping’s returned home to start Beautiful Gate School.

Bill and Thelma converted a two room house into a small school and began teaching 40 children basic primary education.  Within a year they had volunteer teachers in place teaching nearly 80 children.  Since then they have built an entirely new school and continued to grow and now educate approximately 400 children from Grades 1-9.   Beyond Ourselves began partnering with Beautiful Gate in 2010 and the sponsorship programme began there in January 2011.

Beautiful Gate is located near a shanty compound, Robert Compound.  Robert Compound is an area of extreme need, a community that is populated by some of the poorest people in Zambia.  Beautiful Gate is strategically placed right beside this compound to provide education, nutrition and health care to this area.

Beautiful Gate is also involved in working with the street children in Kitwe and at times takes in children for housing and rehabilitation. The school is one part of a larger vision for Beautiful Gate to see it’s surrounding community changed and transformed.
